About Boarding Training Australia

Our Mission

At Boarding Training Australia, our mission is to strengthen the boarding school sector by delivering nationally recognised qualifications and professional learning tailored to residential education. We equip boarding staff — from entry-level to senior leaders — with the skills, confidence, and care needed to create safe, capable, and thriving communities for young people.

Our Programs

BTA’s programs are designed to meet people where they are in their boarding career — from entry-level staff to senior leaders.
Each course is built around real boarding practice and mapped to national competency standards.

Our current programs include:

  • Short Courses:
    • Boarding Fundamentals
    • Boarding Connections
    • Safe & Ethical Boarding Practices
    • Respecting Difference in Boarding
(Each course forms part of the Certificate IV in Community Services – Boarding Practice)
  • Qualifications:
    • Certificate IV in Community Services (Boarding Practice)
Build foundational skills in communication, wellbeing, and safe boarding operations.
    • Diploma of Youth Work (Boarding Leadership)
Advance into leadership roles focused on wellbeing, program design, and team development.

All programs are available through flexible online, blended, or school-based delivery, with modular 3–6 month formats to support continuous professional learning.

Our People

Our trainers and assessors are experienced boarding and education professionals who understand the realities of residential life — late nights, early mornings, complex routines, and the privilege of supporting young people as they grow.

With over 50 years of combined experience in Residential Education, our people have worked across urban, rural, and remote settings, bringing a deep understanding of the diversity that defines Australia’s boarding landscape.

Each member of our team brings:

  • Real-world experience from leading Australian boarding schools and residential programs.
  • Qualifications in youth work, community services, education, or leadership.
  • A shared commitment to evidence-based practice and the Australian Boarding Standard (AS 5725:2015).

They don’t just teach — they mentor, coach, and collaborate with schools to embed professional learning that strengthens both people and programs.
