At Boarding Training Australia, our mission is to strengthen the boarding school sector by delivering nationally recognised boarding qualifications and professional learning tailored to residential education. We equip boarding staff — from entry-level to senior leaders — with the skills, confidence, and care needed to create safe, capable, and thriving communities for young people.
BTA’s programs are designed to meet individuals at various stages of their boarding career — from entry-level staff to senior leaders in residential education. Each course is built around practical boarding practices and aligned with national competency standards, ensuring relevance to the field of boarding qualifications.
Our current programs include:
Short Courses:
- Boarding Fundamentals
- Boarding Connections
- Safe & Ethical Boarding
- Respecting Difference in Boarding
(Each course contributes towards the Certificate IV in Community Services – Boarding Practice)
Qualifications:
- Certificate IV in Community Services (Boarding Practice)
Build foundational skills in communication, wellbeing, and safe boarding operations.
- Diploma of Youth Work (Boarding Leadership)
Advance into leadership roles focused on wellbeing, program design, and team development.
All programs are available through flexible online, blended, or school-based delivery, with modular 3–6 month formats to support continuous professional learning.
Our trainers and assessors are experienced boarding and education professionals who understand the realities of residential education — late nights, early mornings, complex routines, and the privilege of supporting young people as they grow.
With over 50 years of combined experience in residential education, our team has developed a deep understanding of the diversity that defines Australia’s boarding landscape, having worked across urban, rural, and remote settings.
Each member of our team brings:
- Real-world experience from leading Australian boarding schools and residential programs.
- Boarding qualifications in youth work, community services, education, or leadership.
- A shared commitment to evidence-based practice and the Australian Boarding Standard (AS 5725:2015).
They don’t just teach — they mentor, coach, and collaborate with schools to embed professional learning that strengthens both people and programs.
If you have questions about the boarding qualifications or the opportunities available in our professional learning and residential education programs, feel free to send us a message. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
