Review your boarding program with confidence in compliance and a roadmap for continuous improvement

Boarding House Review Services

Our Boarding House Review service provides a structured, independent, and improvement-focused evaluation of boarding operations. Designed for Australian boarding schools, the review supports compliance, quality assurance, and continuous improvement, while recognising the unique culture and context of each boarding community.

Reviews are offered across three levels of engagement. Schools may select a single level or a combination, with the final scope agreed collaboratively to ensure it meets your needs, timelines, and budget.

Importantly, all review reports index findings against the Australian Boarding Standard (AS 5725:2015), as well as relevant state or territory boarding registration requirements, guidelines, and applicable legislation. This ensures schools receive clear, defensible insights that support both regulatory compliance and best practice.

1. Desktop Review

The Desktop Review provides a foundational assessment of your boarding operations through documentation and policy analysis.

This level focuses on reviewing key materials such as:

  • Boarding policies and procedures
  • Student wellbeing, behaviour, and safeguarding frameworks
  • Staffing structures, roles, and professional learning
  • Risk management, incident reporting, and compliance documentation

The Desktop Review identifies strengths, gaps, and priority areas for development, with findings clearly referenced to the Australian Boarding Standard and relevant regulatory frameworks. It is particularly suited to schools seeking:

  • An initial or periodic compliance health check
  • Preparation for accreditation or regulatory review
  • Targeted guidance without on-site engagement

Deliverable:
A concise written report indexing findings against the Australian Boarding Standard and relevant state or territory requirements, with recommended actions.

2. Stakeholder Engagement

The Stakeholder Engagement review builds on the Desktop Review by incorporating the voices and experiences of those who live and work in the boarding environment.

This level may include:

  • Interviews or focus groups with boarding staff and leaders
  • Student voice and experience feedback
  • Parent or caregiver input (where appropriate)
  • Leadership discussions around strategy, culture, and priorities

Stakeholder Engagement provides deeper insight into how policies and practices operate in reality, highlighting cultural strengths, wellbeing considerations, and areas where practice and intent may diverge. Findings are mapped to compliance obligations as well as quality and care indicators within the Australian Boarding Standard.

Deliverable:
An expanded report integrating stakeholder perspectives, indexed against standards and regulatory expectations, with clear themes, risks, and improvement opportunities.

3. Site Visit

The Site Visit is the most comprehensive level of review and includes time on campus to observe boarding operations in practice.

This level may involve:

  • On-site observation of boarding routines and facilities
  • Meetings with boarding leadership and staff teams
  • Review of student supervision, care practices, and environments
  • Validation of documentation against day-to-day practice

The Site Visit enables direct verification of compliance and alignment between policy, practice, and lived experience. Recommendations are practical, prioritised, and explicitly referenced to the Australian Boarding Standard and relevant state or territory legislation.

Deliverable:
A detailed final report with findings, commendations, and a prioritised improvement roadmap, suitable for leadership teams and governance bodies, with clear standards-based indexing.

Flexible Scope, Clear Assurance

Each Boarding House Review is tailored to your needs. The scope, depth, and focus areas are agreed in advance, ensuring the review is proportionate, purposeful, and aligned with your strategic goals.

Our approach is:

  • Independent and evidence-based
  • Explicitly aligned to the Australian Boarding Standard and regulatory requirements
  • Focused on continuous improvement, not just compliance

If you would like to discuss which level — or combination of levels — is right for your school, we welcome a confidential, obligation-free conversation.
